Sir James Hector
Sir James Hector was a Scottish naturalist and geologist who made significant contributions to the understanding of New Zealand's geology in the late 19th century. In 1895, he proposed that New Zealand was part of a larger submerged continent, a theory that would eventually lead to the recognition of Zealandia as an underwater landmass. His work laid the groundwork for future geological studies in the region, although his findings were largely overlooked during his time.
