
Sir John Gray
Sir John Gray was a prominent Irish newspaper proprietor, politician, and social reformer, born on July 13, 1816. He is best known for his role in advocating for nationalist ideals and significant contributions to Dublin's infrastructure, notably the Vartry water scheme, which greatly improved the city's water supply and public health. Gray, a supporter of Daniel O'Connell, campaigned for tenants' rights and was active in the National Association of Ireland. He was knighted in 1863 for his contributions and remained a pivotal figure in Irish politics until his death in 1875.
