Sir Raymond Edward Priestley was a notable Antarctic explorer and geologist, recognized for his contributions to the exploration of the Antarctic region. He was also the brother of botanist Hubert Priestley, whose family library contained a rare first edition of JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit that was recently sold at auction for £43,000.
