
Slobodana Boba Matić Kovač
Slobodana Boba Matić Kovač was a celebrated Croatian painter born in 1947 in Prološac, near Imotski. She grew up in Belgrade, where she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1972. Known for her refined painting style and technical skill, her works often featured Mediterranean themes and surreal elements. She gained recognition early in her career, winning the prestigious Octobersalon award in 1973 as its youngest recipient. In 1991, she relocated to Rovinj to escape the repression of Milošević's regime. Throughout her career, she held numerous solo exhibitions and was particularly noted for her portraits of writers, including Danilo Kiš and her husband, Mirko Kovač. Her last exhibition took place in 2022, and she passed away on August 11, 2023, following a brief illness.
