
Smaranda Brăescu
Smaranda Brăescu (1897-1948) was a pioneering Romanian parachutist and a world champion in the 1930s. She became the first woman in Romania to earn a parachuting license and set a world record for altitude by jumping from 7,200 meters in Sacramento, California, in 1932. Her contributions to the sport of parachuting have left a lasting legacy.
