Sohair Zaki

Sohair Zaki is a renowned Egyptian belly dancer and actress, celebrated for being the first to perform to the music of the legendary singer Umm Kulthum. She gained fame not only for her captivating performances but also for her engagements with prominent political figures, including dancing at events for former Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser and the Shah of Iran. Zaki's unique style earned her the affectionate nickname 'Zaghareet' from former U.S. President Richard Nixon. After a successful career in the entertainment industry, which spanned nearly five decades, she retired in the early 1990s and has since focused on teaching and training young women in the art of belly dancing.
