Anastasio Somoza Debayle was a Nicaraguan politician and military officer who served as the President of Nicaragua from 1967 until 1972 and again from 1974 until he was overthrown in 1979. He was part of the Somoza dynasty that ruled Nicaragua with an authoritarian grip, known for its corruption, human rights abuses, and close ties with the United States during the Cold War. His regime faced significant opposition and was ultimately dismantled by the Sandinista revolution.
