Song Yuankun

Song Yuankun, a 41-year-old man from Yunnan Province, China, was sentenced to eight months in prison for illegally entering Taiwan with his 17-year-old son on an inflatable boat. The Taoyuan District Court ruled that their actions severely undermined Taiwan's national security and border integrity. After arriving at a beach near the Guantang LNG Terminal, the pair attempted to withdraw cash from an ATM but quickly ran out of money and turned themselves in to authorities. Song sought a better life and educational opportunities for his son in Taiwan, which he viewed as a prosperous place.
