Sônia Carneiro was a prominent Brazilian journalist known for her extensive coverage of political events in Brazil. Born in 1949, she began her career in journalism in 1971 and spent over three decades at Rádio Jornal do Brasil and Jornal do Brasil, where she made significant contributions to political reporting. Carneiro was particularly noted for her incisive questioning, exemplified in a memorable press conference in 1992 when she directly confronted then-President Fernando Collor de Melo about rumors regarding his health. Throughout her career, she reported on pivotal moments in Brazilian history, including the Diretas Já movement and the impeachment process of Collor. In recognition of her work, she received the Imprensa Estrangeira Award in 1992. Sônia Carneiro passed away at the age of 74 in Brasília, leaving behind her two sons, Terence and Danniel Zveiter.
