Sonia Mejri

Sonia Mejri is a 36-year-old French woman who has gained attention as the first French returnee from Syria to be tried in France for genocide against the Yazidi minority. She is accused of enslaving a Yazidi teenager in the spring of 2015 while being linked to her ex-husband, Abdelnasser Benyoucef, an emir of the Islamic State. Mejri has consistently denied participating in the genocide and claims she had no control over the victim, asserting that her ex-husband was the 'owner'.
