Sostratus
Sostratus was a Knidian architect best known for designing the Lighthouse of Alexandria, also known as the Pharos of Alexandria, which was constructed around 270 BC on the small island of Pharos off the coast of Egypt. This monumental structure, standing approximately 350 feet tall, served as a beacon for sailors navigating the waters near Alexandria and symbolized the power and prestige of the Ptolemaic dynasty. The lighthouse became one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and set the standard for future lighthouses across the Mediterranean.
