Špiro Matijević was a prominent Serbian writer and university professor born in 1943 in Knin. He studied at the University of Zadar and later obtained his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Sarajevo. His literary contributions include poetry, prose, essays, and literary criticism, with notable works such as 'Sunce u procijepu' and 'Progonstva.' Tragically, Matijević lost his life in Tuzla in 1993. In his honor, the Dr. Špiro Matijević Literary Award was established to recognize outstanding works in Serbian literature.
