St Laurence O’Toole
St Laurence O’Toole, also known as Lorcán Ua Tuathail, was a prominent 12th-century Irish bishop and the patron saint of Dublin. Born around 1128, he was educated in a monastic community and became the abbot of Glendalough before being appointed as the bishop of Dublin in 1162. Known for his efforts to reform the church in Ireland and promote peace among the warring factions of his time, he played a crucial role in the establishment of Dublin's ecclesiastical structure. He was canonized by Pope Celestine III in 1225, and his feast day is celebrated on November 14th, which is also the date of the dedication of St Mary’s Cathedral in Dublin, honoring his legacy as a key figure in Irish Christianity.
