Štefan Banič was a Slovak inventor who is best known for creating the first usable parachute, which he patented in the United States in 1914. Despite his groundbreaking invention, Banič did not achieve fame or fortune from it, and he later returned to his hometown of Smolenice, where he lived a quiet life as a masonry master and engaged in fruit farming.
