Štefan Závodník was a prominent Slovak priest and national revivalist born on September 2, 1813, in Horná Poruba. He dedicated 34 years of his life to the village of Pružina, where he founded various temperance societies to combat the rampant alcoholism of his time, notably establishing the first anti-alcohol society in Slovakia.
