Stéphane Plunian was a 41-year-old gendarme who tragically died in an accident while on duty at the site of the excavations for the 'cemetery' of Emile Louis in Rouvray, Yonne. He was a member of the Criminal Identification Cell (CIC) of the Yonne gendarmerie and had been serving in this capacity since 2016. Plunian had joined the gendarmerie on October 27, 2003, and was actively involved in significant investigations, particularly in relation to the search for victims of a notorious serial killer. His sudden death prompted condolences from the national gendarmerie and the Minister of the Interior, highlighting the risks faced by law enforcement officers in their line of duty.
