Stephen Porter

Stephen Porter is a professor of applied statistics and data analysis at North Carolina State University, where he has taught since 2011. A self-identified populist Republican, Porter has been a vocal opponent of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies at the university for nearly a decade. Recently, he celebrated a significant victory when NC State revised its strategic plan to align with new policies from the University of North Carolina System that prohibit compelled speech and mandate institutional neutrality. This change came shortly after he filed a formal complaint alleging violations of these policies. Despite his success, Porter remains critical of the university's efforts, suggesting that DEI initiatives have merely been renamed rather than eliminated.
