Steven Notley is a biblical scholar and the academic director of the El-Araj Excavation Project, which has been conducting significant archaeological research at the site believed to be the biblical city of Bethsaida. He has played a key role in uncovering evidence that supports the identification of El-Araj as the site where several of Jesus' miracles occurred and where apostles Peter, Andrew, and Philip lived. Notley is also the dean of religious studies at Pillar College in New Jersey, and he has expressed strong confidence in the findings from the excavation that shed light on life during the New Testament period.
