Sverre Petterssen was a Norwegian meteorologist known for his significant contributions to weather forecasting during World War II, particularly his work alongside Group Captain James Stagg in predicting the weather conditions for the D-Day invasion. His identification of the jet stream was crucial in determining the optimal timing for the Allied forces to land on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944.
