
Tabitha Siwale
Tabitha Siwale (1939-2025) was a pioneering Tanzanian politician who made history as the first female cabinet minister in Tanzania, serving in the government of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere. Appointed in 1975 as the Minister of Lands, Housing, and Human Settlements Development, she later took on the role of Minister of Education and played a significant part in shaping Tanzania's educational policies. Siwale was also known for her leadership roles in various institutions, her contributions to women's rights, and her work in the educational sector as a headmistress. In recognition of her impactful career, she received the Woman of the Century Award in 2000.
