Tadeusz Żytkiewicz was a Polish farmer who, at the age of 62, became the recipient of a historic heart transplant performed by surgeon Zbigniew Religa in 1987. His successful surgery not only extended his life by 30 years but also symbolized a significant breakthrough in cardiac medicine in Poland.
