Tannya Varela Coronel

Tannya Varela Coronel made history as the first woman to serve as the commander of the National Police of Ecuador. She held the position from March 2021 until her resignation in January 2022, during a tumultuous period marked by corruption scandals and violence in the country. After her tenure, she has been implicated in an investigation concerning the alleged leaking of sensitive information related to a narcotics case known as León de Troya. Varela, who dedicated 33 years to the police force, has publicly denied any wrongdoing, asserting her commitment to integrity throughout her career.
