Te Whare was a night shift worker who tragically died in a school bus crash while driving home in a likely fatigued state. His untimely death highlighted the dangers of driver fatigue, particularly among shift workers who often experience disrupted sleep patterns. Coroner Rachael Schmidt-McCleave noted that Te Whare had been working extensive overtime prior to the incident, which contributed to his impaired driving. Although the bus driver sustained minor injuries, none of the students on board were harmed.
