Saint Teresa of Avila, born in 1515, was a prominent Spanish mystic, writer, and reformer of the Carmelite Order. She is celebrated for her profound spiritual insights and her role in the Counter-Reformation, founding the Discalced Carmelites to promote a life of prayer and contemplation. Teresa's influential works, including 'The Interior Castle' and 'The Way of Perfection,' have made her a significant figure in Christian spirituality. Canonized in 1622 and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1970, she is one of the few women to receive this honor.
