Saint Teresa of Kolkata, commonly known as Mother Teresa, was a Roman Catholic nun and missionary who dedicated her life to serving the poor and destitute in Kolkata, India. Born in 1910 in Albania, she founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950, a religious congregation devoted to helping 'the hungry, the naked, the homeless, the crippled, the blind, the lepers, all those people who feel unwanted, unloved, and uncared for throughout society.' Her selfless work earned her numerous accolades, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Mother Teresa was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 2016, and her legacy continues to inspire humanitarian efforts worldwide.
