Tessa Waia

Tessa Waia is a project officer with the Butchulla Aboriginal Corporation, which represents the traditional owners of K’gari (formerly Fraser Island). She has been an advocate for capping visitor numbers on the island and is concerned about the changing behavior of dingoes, particularly in relation to visitor safety. Following the tragic death of Canadian backpacker Piper James, Waia emphasized the need for measures to protect both the island's ecosystem and the safety of its visitors.
