She is historically significant as the namesake of the famed Oktoberfest, which originated in 1810 to celebrate her wedding to Ludwig. The festival started as a royal horse race held in honor of their nuptials and has since evolved into one of the world's largest folk festivals, drawing millions of visitors to Munich each year.
