Thia Maskreva

Thia Maskreva is a distinguished Scottish composer, born on May 27, 1927, who has been a significant figure in contemporary music since moving to the United States in 1972. Approaching her 97th birthday, she remains actively engaged in composition and public life, recently completing an opera titled 'Orlando' based on Virginia Woolf's novel. Maskreva is known for her innovative approach to music, having composed ten operas and various instrumental works that often challenge traditional forms. Her contributions to music have been recognized with honors, including being awarded the CBE by Queen Elizabeth II in 2002.
