Thomas Barclay was a Presbyterian missionary known for his significant role in Taiwan during the late 19th century. He is recognized for leading a delegation of local gentry to the Japanese army in 1895, requesting them to enter Tainan peacefully to restore order during the chaotic aftermath of the fall of the Republic of Formosa.
