A 36-year-old Georgian national of Azerbaijani descent was recently apprehended by Greek authorities on suspicion of espionage activities near the naval base in Souda, Crete. He had been under surveillance by the Greek intelligence service (EYP) for several days prior to his arrest, during which he had been staying in a hotel with a view of the base and even attempted to change to a different hotel for a better vantage point. His mobile phone contained photographs of the naval base, raising concerns about potential espionage.
