He was taken on May 5, 2025, and held for 20 days, during which his captors demanded a ransom of $1 million for his release. Following a tense police operation that involved multiple confrontations, the businessman was ultimately freed on May 25, 2025, in the Puerto Cayo area, while seven kidnappers were killed in the process, and a police officer lost his life.
