Urmas Eigla is a seasoned Estonian diplomat and the head of the protocol department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has a background in Roman studies from the Estonian Humanities Institute and has furthered his education at the University of Florence. Over his 27-year career in the foreign service, Eigla has held various positions, including serving in Estonian embassies in Rome and Lisbon, as well as a special mission in Brazil. He has been the Estonian ambassador to several Latin American countries and currently oversees the reception of high-level foreign visitors to Estonia, including dignitaries such as the president, prime minister, and foreign minister. His work often involves discussing the evolution of Estonia's protocol and etiquette since regaining independence, particularly in relation to the influence of former President Lennart Meri.
