Utzil

Utzil is a legendary figure from Kaqchikel mythology, known as a warrior who fell in love with the princess Zacar. Their tragic love story is set against the backdrop of Lake Atitlán, where Utzil and Zacar are said to have been pursued by her people. In a dramatic turn of events, after receiving help from a caiman to cross the lake, Utzil returned to find Zacar dead, leading him to take his own life in the waters. Their tale is intertwined with the natural phenomenon known as Xocomil, which locals believe protects their spirits, allowing them to play in the lake away from prying eyes.
