Valentim de Barros was a notable Portuguese dancer and choreographer, remembered for his significant contributions to the arts despite facing societal challenges due to his homosexuality. He spent nearly four decades in a psychiatric hospital, which hindered his recognition as an artist during his lifetime. In 2023, a studio in Lisbon was inaugurated in his honor, celebrating his legacy on World Theatre Day.
