Valentin Shtermer

Valentin Shtermer was a Belarusian political prisoner who passed away in early 2025. Born in Ukraine, he moved to Gomel, Belarus in the early 2000s and worked in various sectors including construction and landscaping. He was arrested in June 2023 for expressing anti-war sentiments and criticizing the Belarusian government, leading to a conviction and a five-year prison sentence. Shtermer was reported to have suffered from health issues, including the aftermath of a stroke, which contributed to his deteriorating condition during incarceration.
