Vasili Grigoryevich Yanchevitskiy (1875-1954), known by his pen name V.Yan, was a prominent Russian writer of Ukrainian descent. His historical novels, notably 'Chingiz Khan', 'Batı', and 'Towards the Last Sea', gained significant popularity, especially among Azerbaijani readers, during the early 20th century. After graduating from St. Petersburg University in 1898, he worked as a journalist and traveled extensively across Europe and Central Asia, which greatly influenced his literary work. His experiences as a military journalist during the Russo-Japanese War further enriched his writing, often reflecting themes of Eastern culture and history.
