Vasilije Ostroški

Vasilije Ostroški, also known as Saint Basil of Ostrog, is a revered figure in the Eastern Orthodox Church, celebrated for his piety and miraculous deeds. Born in the 17th century in what is now Montenegro, he became a monk and later the Bishop of Herzegovina. His most famous work is the Ostrog Monastery, which attracts countless pilgrims seeking spiritual solace. Vasilije is particularly known for his ability to heal the sick and perform miracles, earning him a place as one of the most beloved saints in the region. His feast day, celebrated on May 12, has recently been a point of contention in Nikšić, where local authorities designated it as the city's official holiday, a decision deemed unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court.
