
Veljko Vlahović
Veljko Vlahović (1914–1975) was a prominent revolutionary and statesman of socialist Yugoslavia, known for his participation in the Spanish Civil War and the National Liberation struggle during World War II. Born in Trmanje near Kolašin, he was politically active from a young age, becoming a leader in the revolutionary student movement at the University of Belgrade. A member of the Communist Party since 1935, he faced imprisonment for his beliefs. Vlahović fought in the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War and later collaborated closely with Josip Broz Tito. He led the 'Free Yugoslavia' radio station during the war and played a vital role in the post-war establishment of the new state, emphasizing education and international solidarity. He is remembered as one of the most educated and politically systematic figures of post-war Yugoslavia.
