Victor Fleming was an American film director born on February 23, 1883, renowned for his work on cinematic masterpieces such as 'Gone with the Wind' and 'The Wizard of Oz'. He started his career with MGM in 1932 and directed several prestigious films during his tenure, including 'Red Dust' and 'Treasure Island'. Fleming's two most famous films, released in 1939, overshadowed much of his other work, although he also directed the notable 1941 adaptation of 'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'. His sudden death from a heart attack in 1949 marked the loss of a significant figure in American cinema, having recently completed 'Joan of Arc' with Ingrid Bergman.
