Dr. Victor Omololu Sowemimo Olunloyo was a distinguished scholar, former governor of Old Oyo State, and a prominent intellectual known for his contributions to mathematics and engineering. Born on April 14, 1935, he achieved remarkable academic success, earning a PhD in Applied Mathematics and Number Theory from the University of St Andrews at the age of 25. A respected figure in Nigerian politics, he served as a commissioner and was the first Ibadan-born governor of Oyo State, although his time in office was cut short by a military coup. Olunloyo was also renowned for his love of the arts, literature, and wine, and he passed away on April 14, 2025, just days before his 90th birthday.
