Viktor Vassiljev

Viktor Vassiljev (1954–2026), known as Viki, was an iconic Estonian musician celebrated for his extraordinary guitar playing and unique stage presence. Born in Käo village near Elva, he rose to prominence despite not coming from a family of cultural elites. Over his remarkable career, which spanned more than fifty years, Vassiljev's guitar sounds graced hundreds of recordings and numerous albums, both official and underground. He was known for his distinctive lion's mane hairstyle, which he wore until his time in the Soviet army. Viki spent much of his life in Tartu before settling in the woods near Tallinn in his later years. His passing in February 2026 followed a prolonged illness, marking the end of a significant era in Estonian music.
