Ordained in 1970, he served as the Bishop of Terni from 2000 to 2012 and has held significant roles within the Catholic Church, including the presidency of the Pontifical Academy for Life since 2016. He is also the Grand Chancellor of the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family.
