VK, short for VKontakte, is a Russian social media and networking service founded in 2006 by Pavel Durov, who also created Telegram. It is one of the largest social media platforms in Russia, with features similar to Facebook, allowing users to share content, create communities, and communicate with one another. VK is owned by the state-controlled tech company VK Company Limited and has been integrated with various services, including the newly developed Max messenger app, which aims to rival foreign messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram amid increasing government control over digital communications.
