Vojislav Torden

Vojislav Torden, a 38-year-old Russian citizen, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Finnish court for war crimes committed in Ukraine. He was previously the commander of the Russian neo-Nazi paramilitary group Rusič and was arrested at Helsinki Airport in July 2023. Torden faced charges related to the deaths of 22 Ukrainian soldiers and the mutilation of a wounded soldier during a 2014 attack on a Ukrainian military convoy. Although he denied all accusations during his trial, the court found him guilty of several counts of war crimes, reflecting Finland's application of universal jurisdiction to prosecute serious crimes regardless of where they occurred.
