Wellington Oyibo

Prof. Wellington Oyibo is the Director of the Centre for Transdisciplinary Research for Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases and a leading figure in the fight against malaria in Nigeria. Recently in the news for his role in a study addressing the misdiagnosis of malaria, Oyibo emphasized the dangers of administering anti-malarial drugs without proper testing, particularly highlighting the risk of misdiagnosing conditions like pneumonia in children. His work focuses on advocating for Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) over traditional diagnostic methods, aiming to improve accuracy in fever management and combat the rising threat of antimicrobial resistance.
