Whitney Mélinard

Whitney Mélinard is an environmental communicator and a member of the Indigenous Kalinago community in Dominica. She has firsthand experience of the devastating impacts of climate disasters, particularly Hurricane Maria in 2017, which destroyed her home and community. Whitney advocates for the need to address cultural losses and the non-economic impacts of climate disasters, emphasizing that disaster recovery must include recognition of the threats to cultural survival and identity faced by Indigenous peoples.
