Wilhelm Steinitz

Wilhelm Steinitz was an Austrian-born chess player who became the first official World Chess Champion in 1886, holding the title until 1894. He was a pioneer in chess strategy and is often regarded as the father of modern chess, as he emphasized the importance of positional play and the concept of the 'isolated pawn' in his teachings and writings.
