William Ato Essien
William Ato Essien is the founder of the defunct Capital Bank, who was convicted in December 2022 for allegedly stealing over GH₵90 million belonging to the bank. He avoided a custodial sentence by agreeing to pay restitution to the state, but failed to meet payment deadlines, leading to his imprisonment in 2023. Essien is currently facing health challenges and is in a wheelchair.
