William Swaney

William Swaney is the newly appointed Consul General of the United States in the Dominican Republic, bringing over 20 years of diplomatic experience to the role. He previously served in various capacities within the U.S. Foreign Service, including positions in Mexico, France, and Afghanistan. Swaney has a strong connection to the Dominican Republic, having served as a vice-consul there in 1997 and returning in 2018 for various roles during the pandemic. He holds degrees from the University of Vermont, George Washington University, and Bates College, and is fluent in Spanish. In his new position, he is tasked with overseeing consular operations and fostering the relationship between the U.S. and the Dominican Republic.
