Winsome Nash was a Brisbane telephonist and mother of five, who inadvertently became a witness to a pivotal moment in Australian political history. In July 1975, while working at the central telephone exchange, she overheard a conversation between American Ambassador Marshall Green and Queensland Premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen regarding the political landscape following the death of Labor senator Bert Milliner. Her account of this conversation, which suggested U.S. interference in Australian politics, remained a closely guarded family secret for decades, only coming to light following her death in 2009.
